A Shameless Belly Dance Plug...
Well, if I'm going to have a blog, I might as well plug my belly dance site, yes? Yes!
I discovered belly dance in 1997. I had graduated with a BFA in Theatre/Dance from Southwest Texas in San Marcos and had moved back to San Antonio. Looking for a group to dance with, I showed up at a studio to take a Brazilian dance class. It had ended but there was a belly dance class about to start and the instructor invited me to stay and check it out. After studying modern dance and ballet for over 6 years, I was shocked to be introduced to moves that were completely foreign to my body. Well, we couldn't have that now could we. I immediately threw myself into this 'new to me' art form. I would take one or two hours of class and then go home and practice the moves painfully slowly until my body 'got it'. Not to mention I loved the amazing costumes and intriguing music. Plus, I was fortunate to have found one of the best instructors in Texas, Karen Barbee, who studied and continues to perform internationally. I began teaching at the Karavan Dance Studio in 1998, where I taught until relocating to Austin, TX in 2004. Over the years, I have blended the strong technical foundation I learned through Karen with modern dance stylings, some emotional aspects, and other tribal and ethnic dances.
I am truly passionate about this dance form and sharing it with audiences around the world. If you need a professional* belly dancer (or group of dancers) for any number of events, let's chat. I am (we are) available internationally for workshops, special events, themed dinner parties, fairs, festivals, club parties, and any other event that demands memorable, quality entertainment. Book now: AngelaNations.com
I also do Shake and Shimmy Belly Dance Parties, perfect for bachelorette celebrations, bridal showers or 'girls night in' get togethers. Lots o' fun - I even bring hip scarves and bindhis for everyone to wear!
*Professional belly dancing is classy and family friendly (and costumes stay on!). Sorry guys, no bachelor parties.
